In the coming months all eyes will be focused on the United States and the White House. Who will be able to call himself President of the most powerful country on earth? Will Donald Trump manage to stay out of trouble and keep the race exciting until the final stretch, or will there be a resounding victory in the works for the ardent Hillary Clinton? Whoever it may be, the Groninger Forum will be keeping a close watch!

For the third time running, we will be spending a long night in Groningen covering the American elections. Of course we will be showing the results and keeping tabs on various television channels, but prior to all this, the Groninger Forum has an exciting programme on American culture and politics. After a festive opening with the De Estrella’s (offcourse they will sing ‘The Star Spangled Banner’), there will be discussions and presentations from US experts and election watchers Maarten KolslootTim JelfsKirsten Verdel, Randy Snoyl and Gregory Fuller. They will take us back to eight years of President Obama, tell us about the American economy, the recent discussions about racisism in America and 'how to become president'.

There will also be a speechmaking competition between local political talents and Buffi Duberman will be giving a workshop on American English. When nearing the very early morning, when the first results are in, things will become livelier and we will be keeping everyone awake with fitness lessons by Marlon Connor, a cheerleading workshop by the Djallita Cheerleaders, comedy by Stranger Things Have Happened, live rock-‘n-roll music from the swinging The Hot Dogs Coverband and of course a few truly American snacks such as donuts!

Election Night USA is a collaboration between the Groninger Forum and student associations SIBCLIO and EPU.
