Gender and Feminism is a topic that does not only matter to us as IR students, but it is a subject that concerns us as responsible, conscious citizens. It is a issue that has polarized already decades ago but as the current political discourse exemplifies it is an issue far from being fully explored and still deeply rooted in our society.

Hence, the Forum committee in cooperation with the Chair Group on International Relations and Security Studies is honored to welcome Dr. Laura Sjoberg, one of the leading feminist IR scholars, to talk about ‘Gender Hierarchies in World Politics’.

Laura Sjoberg is an Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Florida. Dr. Sjoberg’s work has been published in more than three dozen journals in Political Science, Law, International Relations, Gender Studies, and Geography and most of you might have encountered her in Theory of International Relations. She is the author or editor of more than a dozen books, including, most recently, Beyond Mothers, Monsters, Whores (with Caron Gentry, Zed Books, 2015), Women as Wartime Rapists (NYU Press, 2016), and Interpretive Quantification (with J. Samuel Barkin, University of Michigan Press, 2017).

The lecture will take place on the 5th of June and will start at 19:00 o’clock in the Heymanszaal. Entry is free. We are all looking forward to seeing you there.
