Visa: 

EU/EEA students do not have to apply for a study permit, but you do have to register with the Police if staying in Norway for more than 3 months. Please register online as soon as possible after you arrivePlease note that you should not name a reference person in your online application as this will delay the process. 

You are also required to hand in the required documents in person at the local police in Kristiansand after you have completed the mandatory quarantine. This meeting will be organized by UiA in cooperation with the local police and you will receive more information about the procedure during orientation.

  1. Print out UDI’s checklist and gather the required documents

  2. Register an application for a study permit online

    • Submit your application online. 

    • Pay the application fee (currently NOK 4900) 

    • Book an appointment to hand in your documents at your nearest Norwegian Embassy/Consulate 

  3. Had in the application at your nearest Norwegian Embassy/Consulate 

Applicants who cannot register their application online must fill in the application form for a first-time residence permit and apply through the nearest Norwegian Embassy/Consulate in the country of residence.

Residence Card 

A residence card is a plastic card that proves that you have been granted a residence permit in Norway. The police will order your residence card after you have been to the police and this will be sent to your Norwegian address. 

International Education Office cannot answer any questions in regard to the visa process. Please contact your nearest Norwegian embassy or Consulate General. 

Housing:

As an international student at UiA you are guaranteed a single or shared room in one of the student houses located on or near campus. They are all within walking distance to the city centre, as well as to nature and to the sea. The rooms are fully furnished and are offered at student friendly prices. Internet, electricity and operating services are included in the rent. Student accommodation bring together people from all over the world and combines a rich cultural and social experience with a welcoming, inclusive community life. It is also a great opportunity to get to know Norwegian students

Living Costs:

Norway is known for being one of the world's most expensive countries. However, the university provides some tipson how to save money when in Norway:

  • Norway has a big selection of supermarkets with great weekly specials.
  • Buy the shop’s own brand.
  • Shop at International supermarkets.
  • Cook with friends.
  • Make the most of Norway’s natural resources. Pick your own berries or go fishing.
  • Drink tap water – it’s the best!
  • Regardless of whatever your budget might be, don’t forget to enjoy the most beautiful scenery in the world - it’s free!

  • Student housing (SiA Housing): from NOK 3200 per month
  • Public transportation card for students (one month): NOK 520
