General Information: The University of Exeter combines world class research with excellent student satisfaction at its campuses in Exeter and Cornwall. Founded in 1955, but with origins in the nineteenth century, the university now has a turnover of over £350 million and plays a leading role in the economy of the south-west of England.

The University of Exeter is a Russell Group university that combines world-class research with high levels of student satisfaction. Exeter has over 27,000 students and is 15th in The Guardian University Guide 2022, and in the top 150 globally in both the QS World Rankings 2022 and the THE World University Rankings 2022. In the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF), the University ranked 16th nationally, with 98% of its research rated as being of international quality, while in 2017, Exeter was awarded a Gold rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) assessment. 

Visa Requirements: Most international fee-paying students will need some form of visa to come to the UK. It could either be a Student visa, for students studying a course longer than 6 months, or a Visitor visa, for student studying in the UK for 6 months or less.

Housing: 

  • If you are joining us as part of a Study Abroad and International Exchange* programme for one semester, you will be able to apply for our small number of rooms in short-term University accommodation.
  • The date that you will be able to apply from depends on whether you are joining us in Semester 1 (17th of September to 14th of January) or Semester 2 (14th of January to 22nd of June)- take a look at the When to Apply section below for help.
  • We have a limited number of rooms available and applications will be dealt with in date order of us receiving the applications.

*Due to the limited number of bedspaces available for semester students, we are currently only able to accept applications for University accommodation from students studying for their first semester programme. Students who are returning to complete a further semester programme will need to secure private accommodation in the city.
